Sufi Darvish Book Cover Design for a Collection of Rumi Quotes

I did a passion project where I designed and illustrated a book cover for a collection of quotes by the Persian poet, Rumi. This project was particularly close to my heart, as Rumi’s poetry resonates with themes of love, spirituality, and the beauty of the human experience. I wanted to create a cover that not only captures the essence of his work but also invites readers into his timeless wisdom. The design process began with a focus on the rich imagery found in Rumi's poetry. To reflect the depth and spiritual significance of his words, I chose to illustrate a Sufi dervish, a symbol of love and devotion in Sufi tradition. The whirling movement of the dervish embodies the journey of seeking connection with the divine, mirroring the themes of transcendence and inner peace present in Rumi's writings. Once I completed the drawing of the dervish, I used Photoshop to add color and depth to the illustration. I wanted to create a palette that conveyed a sense of serenity, drawing inspiration from the colors of nature and the calmness of the emotions present in Rumi’s poetry. Soft, inviting hues blended seamlessly with the imagery, enhancing the overall feel of the cover.

I aimed for the cover to feel both contemporary and reflective of the rich heritage surrounding his work. Completing this passion project was a deeply rewarding experience. It served as a reminder of the transformative power of art and literature. I found great joy in channeling my admiration for Rumi into the design, and I hope it resonates with readers as they explore his profound insights. The beauty of Rumi’s poetry deserves to be celebrated, and I hope my cover can contribute to that celebration by inviting others to engage with his work.
