Designing the Cover for "Noughts and Crosses"

I did a self-initiated book cover deign project by creating the cover and endpapers for the penguin archive book of "Noughts and Crosses" by Malorie Blackman. This project was a fantastic opportunity for me to dive deep into my creative skills and explore the themes of the book visually. To start, I hand drew various elements that resonated with the story. I wanted the patterns to reflect the powerful narrative and emotional depth that Malorie Blackman conveys in her writing. I drew silhouettes to reprepresnt the main characters, Sephy and Callum. Once I had my sketches, I transformed these drawings into colourful illustrations, which would serve as the backdrop for the book cover and endpapers. One of my favorite parts of the design process was hand drawing the title. There’s something special about crafting a title from scratch—it brings a personal touch to the project and truly captures the essence of the story within. Overall, this design experience not only allowed me to showcase my artistic abilities but also deepened my appreciation for the profound themes of friendship and conflict in "Noughts and Crosses."
