Designing the Cover for "Noughts and Crosses"

I desigend and illustrated the cover and endpapers for the penguin archive book brief of "Noughts and Crosses" by Malorie Blackman. This was a self-initiated project. This project was a fantastic opportunity for me to dive deep into my creative skills and explore the themes of the book visually. To start, I hand drew various elements that resonated with the story. I wanted the patterns to reflect the powerful narrative and emotional depth that Malorie Blackman conveys in her writing. Once I had my sketches, I transformed these drawings into intricate patterns in Photoshop, which would serve as the backdrop for the book cover and endpapers. One of my favorite parts of the design process was hand drawing the title. There’s something special about crafting a title from scratch—it brings a personal touch to the project and truly captures the essence of the story within.
