Concept and Composition

I positioned the giant peach atop the Empire State Building, creating a sense of scale, wonder, and whimsy. The perspective is from below, as though the viewer is looking up at the peach, emphasizing both the enormity of the peach and the adventurous journey of James. This choice invites the reader into the story, giving a sense of awe and anticipation.

Rather than a literal depiction of the characters, I focused on the relationship between the peach and the urban environment, highlighting the surreal, fantastical nature of the story and evoking the excitement of James’s extraordinary adventure.

Hand-Drawn Approach

All elements, including the hand-drawn typography, were created to maintain a sense of intimacy, playfulness, and authenticity. The irregular line quality and subtle texture give the illustration a human touch, capturing the magic and humor in Dahl’s narrative.

Colour and Tone
