children’s character for picture books

So you have thought of writing your own children’s books, but have you thought about what topics you might write about? Here are some classic themes to get your creative juices going:

  1. Courage - the main character overcomes a big fear, and finds strength in themselves to overcome what is scaring them

  2. Friendship - the main character shares and helps others in the book

  3. Growing up-the ‘hero’ doesn’t always get what they want and has to learn lessons from life which help them to mature

  4. Loss - the main character loses a pet and how they manage the anxiety

  5. Belonging - how will the character cope with the arrival of the new baby in the house?
