caring colouring and sea change project
“the oceans are the lungs of our planet, providing most of the oxygen we breathe”. (united nations)
this month I took part in the incredible jehane’s caring colouring volume 2 project. jehane opened up an immensely inspiring initiative inviting everyone to submit a black and white artwork to highlight the vulnerability our oceans are facing, in particular the kelp forests. we take it for granted but our world protects us, and we in turn need to protect it, not only for the wildlife that depends on it, but also for our own existence.
I fell in love with the project immediately. the caring colouring volume 2 is a book to celebrate the beauty of life. the project is hoping to raise much needed funds to protect the oceans. one hundred percent of the funds will be donated. as a community we all need to work together, however small that may be to protect our world, and the oceans within it. oceans account for more than 70% of the planet. not only do the oceans provide homes to thousands of species and ecosystems, but we as humans rely on them for livelihood and climate regulation.
unfortunately, coral reefs are dying. this could prove catastrophic for everyone, including us. jehane has collaborated with the sea change project, which is a network of scientists, filmmakers and journalists who have come together to raise the awareness of the beauty and the ecological importance of the kelp forests, in particular that of the south african kelp forest.
in addition to helping the sea change project, the books printed will also be given to young children who need extra support, via fabrica and chomp. I hope as many people as possible can contribute to the incredible project.
here is my submission that I have created for this truly amazing cause. for more images, please see my instagram page. I hope you enjoy them as much I enjoyed creating them!
